Issue

Thuthuzela Care Centres (TCCs) operate in each of South Africa’s 53 health districts.  They are a victim-centred, one-stop service (medical, legal, police and psycho-social) funded by the South African government. Case management of victims is complex and paper-based, and it can be hard to track the progress of the various medical and legal processes involved.

Project

Making All Voices Count is funding FPD to develop new ways to facilitate communication between clients and staff of TCCs, which allows survivors of violence to track the progress of their cases and give confidential feedback about the services they receive.

This research runs alongside the innovation grant and aims to learn from victims of sexual and gender-based violence about their experiences and needs. It is working to determine the key factors that influence their experience as TCC clients, and explore different ways that TCC staff can support them to share their experiences at the same time as protecting their confidentiality.
