International Civil Society Week 2014

Making All Voices Count is one of over 25 partners hosting an event at the 2014 International Civil Society Week in Johannesburg, South Africa which runs November 21– 24.

Under the banner of “Citizen Action, People Power,” the weeklong series of partner-led events will be the premiere global gathering of inspired thinkers, innovation leaders, and influential organisations.

On November 23 from 13.30 - 17.00 we will host: Brokering Pathways to Progress in Citizen’s Relations with Government.

This event will discuss how we transform the relationship citizens have with their governments. How do we get from passive recipients of often sub-standard services to a vibrant and responsive relationship in which governance is everybody’s business? We will explore this by hearing perspectives from traditional NGOs, youth, the tech sector and government actors. We’ll also be inviting your own views and experiences, including any ideas you have for becoming involved with the Making All Voices Count programme.

Three of our funded partners, Yowzit, The Centre for Municipal Research and Advice and Mtaani Initiative will offer different perspectives on the way they’re working to transform the relationship between citizens and government, highlighting their own experiences, insights and lessons learned so far.

Participants will then explore how we bring people together, brokering new partnerships between people or organisations that rarely work together, against the challenges of power and politics, technology and capacity.

In addition, closer to the event, we will be sharing set Meet & Greet times at our stand, and invite you to take advantage of these to learn more about our programme, and ways in which we might work together towards a common end; to make all voices count.
