At the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Summit in London, we announced our first ever Global Innovation Competition.

We’re looking for innovative solutions to increase government transparency and accountability. The competition is open to all types of organisations, including companies, civil society organisations, as well as government agencies and individuals from anywhere in the world.

 

The best new ideas and proven concepts from around the world will receive a £65,000 grant and the two runners-up will each receive a £35,000 grant. In addition, seven smaller prizes of £5,000 will be awarded.  The best applicants will compete through both a public online voting and a peer-review system. The top 10 semi-finalists will be flown to Nairobi for the Global Innovation Week.

“The Summit has gathered hundreds of the brightest minds and most exciting efforts at transparency and accountability the world has seen. We are on the cusp of discovering new ways to connect government and citizens. I can feel it.”

Based upon the OGP’s eligibility criteria, the topics for this year’s competition are:

• Fiscal Transparency
• Access to Information
• Disclosures Related to Elected or Senior Public Officials
• Citizen Engagement

Any individual or organisation from any country is welcome to apply. Applications must address one or more of the four competition topics and show that the idea or proven concept will be implemented in one of the twelve Making All Voices Count countries: Bangladesh, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.
