Event | September 23, 2016 - September 29, 2016

In August and September 2016, the Jakarta City Government, together with Making All Voices Count, will hold the #HACKJAK 2016 competition, with a special focus on data literacy.

Building on experience from the previous two hackathons, #HackJak2016 will help provide government agencies, journalists, graphic designers and students with new skills to read, understand and analyse data, that can be used to benefit communities and achieve greater transparency.

This year, through a writing competition, a visualthon and a videothon, #HackJak2016 will promote the use of the government’s open data portal, open the budget process to the public and present the city government statistics.

A series of workshops during #HackJAK2016 will train:

  • Journalists on how they can read budgets and present the data in an interesting and accurate way;
  • Graphic designers on how they can read and visualise budget data into graphics information that is easily understood by the public;
  • Video makers on how they can produce films or videos on community services by leveraging budget data;
  • Jakarta government’s employees on how can they understand the data and make their job easier.

The events team aims to produce 20 news posts, 20 visuals and 20 videos, which will be published on Jakarta Open Data website.
