The Global Innovation Competition calls for fresh ideas from actors across the world with powerful ideas to amplify citizen voice and make governments more transparent, responsive and accountable.

This is part of Making All Voices Count’s broader approach to finding and funding innovations to improve citizen-state relations; read more on this here.

Global Innovation Competition makes a call for ideas

The Global Innovation Competition 2015 #GIC2015 launched in September 2014 and attracted a total of 241 eligible ideas. From October 22 – November 23 the public voted for their favourite entries, and today – having received over 25,000 votes – we announce the 50 that will progress to the next round.

These compete for a grant from a pool of £300,000, participation in Global Innovation Week in Jakarta, Indonesia and South to South Lab mentoring.

In line with the programme’s goals of inclusivity, four ideas were awarded wildcards to ensure those from less-ICT enabled communities had their voices heard. In addition, as a result of an independent analysis of  votes cast, four submissions were found to be in breach of the terms and conditions of the competition. These were disqualified as per Section 8 of the GIC Manual.
